Today was our first live show after the Easter break and WHAT a show it was. From the very opening jingle to the end, everyone was on fine form with superb broadcast skills and fantastic expression, putting together a half hour of highly enjoyable radio.
We also had a world exclusive on the Westwood Scarecrow Trail as Lilly Webb and Bryony Green joined us in the studio earlier in the day for an interview to give us the very latest on this year’s event, which is sure to be even bigger than last year! Here they are being interviewed behind the mic
We also spiced things up a little today by including two, yes two songs instead of one and with a huge amount of audience interaction through email and Twitter we all had a super afternoon in the Westwood Radio studio.
If you missed today’s show, fear not as here it is for you to enjoy in full
This week we have had a tremendous amount of fun at Westwood Radio. Beginning with Mother’s Monday and a very special Breakfast Show – our current radio club’s first live show – as you will see from the previous post.
We have also welcomed back Emma Hodgkins of the Helen Hodgkins Trust to Westwood school to be interviewed for this week’s radio show about her work with providing clean water for families in Ghana through her charity. You can find out all about her brilliant work on http://www.helenhodgkinstrust.org/ Do please check out her blog and have a listen to her fascinating interview here:
On broadcast day, which as you will know is every Friday at 2.30pm, we welcomed Conservative MP for Chippenham and local area Michelle Donelan to our school. Michelle very kindly took time out of her busy schedule to join us in the Westwood Radio studio to be interviewed by Oscar, Lily and Finn who had all prepared their own superb questions to gain an insight into the life and work of an MP. Michelle was brilliant and gave us a fantastic interview. Here is the full interview:
With so much fantastic pre-recorded content, as well as a raft of original, professionally scripted material by the children, this was a very special show to end our term. It also proved to be our longest, even with Take That’s Greatest Day removed for copyright purposes.
Radio Club will be broadcasting on Monday 3rd April at 8.30am, so please do join us and get in touch with the show whilst we are on air by emailing email@example.com or texting 078600 17404, which will also come through as an email. I am so proud of our achievements again this term, Westwood Radio is going from strength to strength!
This week we had the pleasure of welcoming some of our mums to join our latest radio club group in their very first live broadcast.
The children had planned some excellent features and written professional scripts. Everyone was also very professional and showed how well they had developed their skills in microphone technique and using time checks and handovers to put together a very slick show!
Our thanks to Mrs Batten, Mrs Caston and Mrs Mavridis for the superb delivery of the week’s weather and for joining in so early in the morning. A big well done to the children as well for being so confident in their first live show.
Here are some photos of us in action and our broadcast
After a week of completely independent planning, organisation and preparation, the children delivered another fantastic broadcast this afternoon all live, of course from 2.30pm. With another perfect blend of school, community and world news, as well as topical features and even a feature on the hugely successful £1 challenge for the Helen Hodgkin’s Trust that Orchid class took part in last week, this was another show not to be missed.
With a Breakfast Show to look forward to on Monday, live from 8.30am and starting our Mother’s Monday off in the best way possible, there is so much happening at Westwood Radio! Enjoy the listen again and our brand new podcast intro!
This afternoon the children of Westwood Radio put together another fantastic show for their listeners. Live once again from 2.30pm, everyone had chosen their own feature and scripts were well prepared and beautifully delivered as always.
With a perfect mix of jingles and an interview with the winner of the 2017 Bath Half Marathon Women’s Race, together with special features from our blogs and this week’s £1 challenge this is a show worthy of a listen again. Here are the team in action and the interview in full.
This morning the children of Westwood Radio had the privilege of taking part in a truly international and intercontinental live interview with Russell Prue who was broadcasting Live from Dubai on NetSupportRadio at the GESS 2017 Conference!
Broadcasting from the World Trade Centre at 3pm local time and 11am GMT, Russell linked up with us on Skype and we were able to have a fascinating conversation about our radio station, what we enjoy about school radio and how we put together our broadcasts each week. With their usual eloquence and enthusiasm, the children were superb, answering questions from Russell and also from some local students who took part in the broadcast, which was a great experience for everyone and an interesting cultural discussion.
Here are both sides of the microphone, with Russell in Dubai and us in our Westwood Radio studio. Listen again using the player below.
This week’s group have been hard at work this lunchtime planning a fantastic show for Friday. With the usual class news PLUS some special features and, hopefully, an interview with one of our parents who only won the Bath Half Marathon Women’s race!

Today was another fantastic broadcast by our team which included an interview with Mrs Sage, one of our TAs, some special reports on Lotus and Orchid class trips and the usual mix of top stories, class and community news. Our song choices for today were Rock a bye by Clean Bandit and Skin by Rag n Bone man. Rock a bye was a clear favourite and we had some great shout outs to read too. Thank you to everyone for joining in. Here is the show to listen again, along with a special ‘behind the scenes’ video of how it looks from our side of the mic when we are on air.

Today we broadcast once again live online to the community and the world on World Book Day. What strikes me is that with every passing week and show, the children become even more confident, more professional and put together a show that is just superb. Today’s was no exception, with some lovely features including the usual school news, but also some fabulous world news from Charlie and fantastic BBC 500 word performances live in the studio from Oscar and Finn.
With a focus on Orchid class blog and their myths and legends posts – orchid.westwoodblogs.org if you fancy having a read – and all the weather you need to know for the weekend, this was another example of top class school radio broadcasting. here is the show to listen again:
