With a new term brings a whole new enthusiastic and excited group of children to Friday Radio Club, who are keen to learn the techniques and skills of broadcasting in our fabulous Westwood Radio studio. Once again we started at the very beginning by looking at our equipment, handling microphones and how to speak clearly and effectively into them, at the same time, listening to our own voices in our ears, which is a strange sensation!
The children were absolutely superb and listened so carefully to what we were discussing. The result? After just 45 minutes, we put our skills into practice and recorded our first sequence of features and handovers together, interspersed of course with a few jingles. The recording below is the outcome. With very minimal editing, this was outstanding for a first attempt!
Today was our first live show after the Easter break and WHAT a show it was. From the very opening jingle to the end, everyone was on fine form with superb broadcast skills and fantastic expression, putting together a half hour of highly enjoyable radio.
We also had a world exclusive on the Westwood Scarecrow Trail as Lilly Webb and Bryony Green joined us in the studio earlier in the day for an interview to give us the very latest on this year’s event, which is sure to be even bigger than last year! Here they are being interviewed behind the mic
We also spiced things up a little today by including two, yes two songs instead of one and with a huge amount of audience interaction through email and Twitter we all had a super afternoon in the Westwood Radio studio.
If you missed today’s show, fear not as here it is for you to enjoy in full
Welcome back to another term and more to look forward to from Westwood Radio. Wasting no time at all, the children were back in the studio this lunchtime planning Friday’s show which will be live at 2.30pm. As you can see from the running order, it will be packed with top quality features and news from the community to the world.
With 1000 listeners a month now tuning into our station online, we are certainly growing and we have now also had listeners in 15 different countries around the globe. Truly international!
Join us this Friday on westwoodwithiford.org and email email@example.com now for a shout out from Georgia live on air.
This morning radio club broadcast their latest breakfast show with the usual professionalism and fluency that we are coming to expect of our fantastic young broadcasters. Having planned their own scripts, including top news stories, community news, school events and the weather for the week, all of the children thoroughly enjoyed their time in the studio and showed tremendous resilience and confidence as they were live to the world for almost half an hour.
It makes me proud to see them at work and to think that our village school is making such an impact with its school radio. You can catch up with all of our broadcasts by visiting https://soundcloud.com/westwoodradio or you can download them to your preferred device as we are also on iTunes and also on TuneIn. In the meantime, please enjoy today’s show and we will be back again after Easter live at 2.30pm on Friday 28th April. Happy Listening!
This week we have had a tremendous amount of fun at Westwood Radio. Beginning with Mother’s Monday and a very special Breakfast Show – our current radio club’s first live show – as you will see from the previous post.
We have also welcomed back Emma Hodgkins of the Helen Hodgkins Trust to Westwood school to be interviewed for this week’s radio show about her work with providing clean water for families in Ghana through her charity. You can find out all about her brilliant work on http://www.helenhodgkinstrust.org/ Do please check out her blog and have a listen to her fascinating interview here:
On broadcast day, which as you will know is every Friday at 2.30pm, we welcomed Conservative MP for Chippenham and local area Michelle Donelan to our school. Michelle very kindly took time out of her busy schedule to join us in the Westwood Radio studio to be interviewed by Oscar, Lily and Finn who had all prepared their own superb questions to gain an insight into the life and work of an MP. Michelle was brilliant and gave us a fantastic interview. Here is the full interview:
With so much fantastic pre-recorded content, as well as a raft of original, professionally scripted material by the children, this was a very special show to end our term. It also proved to be our longest, even with Take That’s Greatest Day removed for copyright purposes.
Radio Club will be broadcasting on Monday 3rd April at 8.30am, so please do join us and get in touch with the show whilst we are on air by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or texting 078600 17404, which will also come through as an email. I am so proud of our achievements again this term, Westwood Radio is going from strength to strength!
